Gift Guide for Travelers

TIS THE SEASON for endless shopping and stressing about what to get your friends and family and loved ones. Fun, right? To make your life a little easier, I’m sharing 10 gift ideas - some of my own favorite things that I use as a Frequent Traveler™ and then other gift ideas for the trip takers in your own life. Feel free to tell them you thought of the gift yourself though :)

1 | A good external battery

I talked about my love for my external battery in my Travel Tips post awhile back and I’m happy to report that our bond has never been stronger. I recommend gifting one with at least 20,000 mAh (basically, a lot of juice). My battery is that size and I can charge my phone 3 or 4 times over before I need to charge it again. I can’t find the exact one I have to save my life, but this RAVPower one is very similar!

2 | Wired headphones

I love my DouchePods (my name for AirPods since let’s face it: they look douchey) as much as the next guy, but sadly airplanes have not caught up to our wireless lifestyle yet. But when you need to plug in to binge-watch movies on your next flight, you don’t wanna use the crappy airline headphones. Enter Beats earphones - they’re comfy enough to wear for long flights and the sound quality is amazing. They’re definitely on the ~ nicer ~ end of wired earphones, but after buying the same pair of $15 headphones over and over and over and over again after they continuously broke, these were worth the one-time price.

3 | A toiletry bag to love

I never really thought about the importance of a bag that you just throw all your cosmetic supplies in until I found one I loved. My Herschel Chapter Travel bag is always pre-stocked with travel size toothpaste, my toothbrush case, hair products, lotion, etc so whenever I’m packing for a trip, it’s just a matter of tossing my day to day stuff in there and hitting the road. It’s big enough for bigger products but small enough to take up little room in your luggage. Plus, it’s aesthetically pleasing!

4 | Tiny wallet

My mom actually got me this as a gift last year and I didn’t realize how great it was until I had it. I normally carry my wallet everywhere at home, just in case I need that one coffee card from that one coffee shop somewhere in the city. This tiny wallet was the perfect way to take just what I need - cash, a credit card, maybe my ID - without having to carry my bulky wallet. Here’s a v similar one to my own.

5 | Roll up duffle (aka emergency 2nd carry on)

I mean, this is just a good, practical decision. Throwing a thin, foldable duffle bag like this one in your luggage could end up saving you a lot of pain if you go a little shopping crazy on your trip - you can fill it up and take it as a 2nd carryon. It’s also small enough to use as an out-and-about bag during any long exploring days.

6 | An ~ experience ~ of their choice

Last Christmas, I realized my parents literally have everything so I opted to get them a Tinggly package. You buy and gift the package, then the giftee gets to pick out an experience out of 620+ in over 100 countries. Perfect for those who have everything and you never know where they’re headed next.

7 | Travel size face mask

Traveling can be exhausting. I always pack a travel-size tube of my fav face masks so that when I get to where I’m going, I can chill for a sec and refresh. I just got this pack of tiny lil’ Peter Thomas Roth masks and my current fav is the 24k gold - it’s got me feeling fancy af.

8 | Hanging suitcase scale

Hanging suitcase scales, like this one, are one of those things that everyone really should have but a surprising amount of people don’t. You loop the bottom part through your handle, pull up, and the screen will tell you how much your suitcase weighs. No more trying to hop a regular scale and subtracting your weight or just ballparking it and hoping it’s not over when you get there.

9 | Pill organizer

Okay sure, this sounds silly, but hear me out. I usually travel with some Advil, allergy medicine, and my vitamins. Throw in melatonin, anti-nausea medicine, or anything else you take, it adds up! Why not have one lil pill organizer that’s portable and saves you from bringing 8 different containers?

10 | Wifi everywhere

Another one of my hot tips was, if you’re in the US, to just get on T-Mobile - you get data worldwide! However, if the person you’re buying for just looooves their carrier that’s not T-Mobile, consider Sky Roam. It’s basically a hotspot that they can pay for how much WiFi they need (at cheaper rates than carriers), connect multiple devices, and works in 130+ countries.
